We have another addition to the Cisco 2800 series image gallery, and below is a few details about the Cisco 2801:
The device itself will take up 1U (1.75 inches) of rack space and is modular with all its ports displayed on the front of the unit. This router is aimed at the SMB (Small to medium Business) market.
The base model Cisco 2801 includes two Fast Ethernet ports, 128MB of DRAM (dynamic RAM), 64MB of CF (CompactFlash) and an embedded hardware cryptography accelerator. The Cisco 2801 also includes four HWICs (high-performance WAN interface cards) which are a nice touch allowing 800Mbs at full duplex of aggregate throughput and PoE (Power Over Ethernet ) support, the slots will still also support WIC/VIC/VWIC cards.
The wide array of integrated service modules available are what gives the 2801 its position as an ISR router, the benefit of offloading services to modules is probably obvious in that the module can do all the processing leaving the router to do what it does best (routing and switching).
